A jet hand pendant or figa, the setting and jump ring in 18kt gold. The hand is a carved closed fist. The hand as an amulet has been a feature through the centuries, symbol against the evil eye and of femininity amongst other things. Jet hands were particularly associated with the protection of babies.
Measurements and markings:
Including the jump ring the hand measures 33mm in length and 14mm in width. It is hanging on a very fine gold plated chain.
There are no hallmarks on the piece however it tests for 18kt gold. It has been dated as victorian.
Condition:
The piece is in good condition.
